    The central miniature has the Virgin Mary praying over Christ's crucified body by the cross. He is crowned with thorns, and the sacred wounds are shown. The subjects of the surrounding medallions are: Crucifixion of Christ with the Virgin Mary and St. John; Entombment of Christ with the Virgin Mary, Mary Magdalene, St John, Nicodemus and Joseph of Arimathea; Presentation in the Temple, with the Virgin Mary presenting the Christ-Child to the High Priest Simeon, with Joseph carrying turtledoves in a basket as sacrifice, and a handmaiden following with a candle; Flight to Egypt, with the Virgin and Child riding on a donkey; Christ amongst the doctors in the temple; and Christ carrying the cross.
