Bound, paginated manuscript volume, containing details for various medico-legal cases for which Thomas Scattergood conducted forensic testing. Pages are numbered: 1-160.
Most of the cases are dated and have titles; they contain detailed notes about the specimens provided to Scattergood, the testing undertaken, and the results of his findings. There are often notes in the margins of each case, some sketches, and many include related newspaper articles.

The subjects of the cases include • Injuries of the head • Cases of murder and manslaughter • Cases of poisoning, by: strychnine, arsenic, morphia, hydrocyanic acid, chloral and bromide of potassium • Poisoning of animals, including: foxhound, dog, cockerel, horses, cattle. • Cases of deaths from vaccination, starvation and neglect, and drowning • Judicial hanging • Sheepworrying proved by wool in vomit and excrement • Pleuropneumonia • Thrombosis of pulmonary artery of pregnant female • Perforation of bowel • Examination of skeleton found buried in Lady Beck, Leeds • Assault and attempted rape
