Mr. James Ward of West Witton ( Wensleydale) putting the finishing touches to the Bartle for the West Witton Bartle Fair. The Bartle is a guy that will be burned on a bonfire as part of the fair celebrations. Bartle is thought to be a corruption of Bartholomew, the Bartle Fair preceding the feast of St. Bartholomew.
