Steel-rimmed cow horn suspended by a chain from a stone wall, Healaugh ( Swaledale). The cow horn was found by farmer Norman Sunter, hanging in his barn where it had been for as long as he could remember. It would have been used for oiling the wood-arm or iron straight arm of a Dales cart with patent grease on long journeys. Mounted on Photo File card with LAVC/PHO/P1205. With ms. notes and catalogue details in the hand of Werner Kissling.
