Mr. Will Horner wearing a back can for carrying milk, on his farm, Redmire ( Wensleydale). Mr. Horner's son can be seen in the background, milking a cow by hand underneath an open shelter. Mounted on Photo File card with LAVC/PHO/P1549. With ms. note and catalogue details in the hand of Werner Kissling. Card 1 in a series of 3.
Mr. Horner and his son milked their herd of 18 cows in the open, as pictured, until 1966. They attended to the milking in this way again in September 1967 especially for the purpose of photographing.
