A scrap of paper with the word ‘ALARI’ was attached. This is the name given to the cloth due to its deep maroon or magenta colour, which is reminiscent of the prestigious ‘Alari’ type of Aso-Oke cloth made until at least as late as the early twentieth century from imported magenta waste silk.
