[Side 1] Charles recalls having to retire from gardening due to sciatica, tells series of anecdotes about subsequent experiences as chimney sweep. [Side 2] Charles recalls threshing by hand and talks about casual farm work, incl. drinking up to 10 quarts of cider a day, describes typical day threshing, 5am start and 5 mile walk to farm, took 1 hour to raise steam in threshing machine before 7am whistle to alert farm workers, breakfast at 9am, lists typical food eaten at work.
