[Side 1] Ted describes long working hours and low wages in past, mentions occasionally being invited in to farmhouse for meal and recalls women in domestic service being given food parcels, discusses recent weather and planting, talks about long severe winter of 1895. [Side 2] Ted talks about injury he suffered in 1939 when felling timber, describes long recuperation in infirmary, recalls three occasions as child when he nearly drowned: gust of wind blew him into bath of rainwater as toddler; branch broke while bird nesting in tree ovrehanging brook; fell into 80-foot well.
