[Side 1] Alf explains how to build and thatch corn stack incl. use of 'staddle' [= raised platform on which stack is built to deter vermin] and importance of 'barge-course' [= portion of thatch on stack extending slightly beyond end to keep out rain], discusses harvesting machines incl. reaper, self-deliverer and binder, recalls men used to 'fag' by hand [= to cut corn with sickle] and women would tie sheaves, talks about ploughing with horses, describes typical working day and reflects on farm workers' wages in past.
