[Side 1] Jack tells amusing anecdote about winning sweepstake to guess size of two prize turnips: wet Friday afternoon at quarry so headed 'hame' [= home], changed into night 'claes' [= clothes] and set off into village to fetch water leaving son to 'lake' [= play] with toys, called at local pub and spotted two prize-winning turnips on mantelpiece, expressed surprise to landlady as farmer who had won prize was not known for growing turnips, so Jack decided to measure them. [Side 2] Jack went 'hame' [= home] for dinner and returned to pub that evening, encountered dozen people organising sweepstake on size of turnips, Jack guessed almost exactly right, won 'brass' [= money] and bought round of beer, landlady laughed and gave him away but Jack had last laugh as farmer accused him of cheating and Jack in turn accused him of pinching turnips.
