'tupping' [= mating], explains use of 'ruddle' [= dye applied to ram to mark ewes that have been 'tupped'], 'clipping' [= shearing] and dipping, recalls 'saulve' [= mixture of Stockhom tar, whale oil and grease] used in past to kill 'cades' [= sheep-lice], lists local names for sheep of different ages, incl. 'hog' [ = sheep after first dipping], shearing [= sheep after first shearing], two-shear and three-shear [= sheep after subsequent shearings] [Side 2] George talks about keeping pigs, used to 'hing' [ = hang] 'flick' [ = flitch of bacon] in sacks to avoid 'bluebottles' [= maggots], discusses protecting sheep against bluebottles, briefly mentions father's work on railway and recalls local railway tunnel flooding.
