Description:
[Side 1] Charles recalls father visiting neighbouring farmer and being shown 'gilt' [= young sow] and litter of piglets, neighbour convinced 'reckling' [= runt] unlikely to survive so Charles' father offered to buy it but neighbour wouldn't take any money, Charles' father took reckling home, kept it in 'hovel' [= shed] and Charles helped feed it from 'titty-bottle' [= baby's feeding bottle]. [Side 2] Charles recalls how pig would 'kall' [= call out, squeal] for food, explains once it had 'tushes' [ = tusks, teeth] it was able to eat 'force' [= gruel used to fatten animals] so father transferred it to pig-sty and it finally weighed 39 and a half stone when slaughtered at eighteen months.
