"26. Meteren by moonlight. Painting includes legend: "Meteren 16.12.16". On reverse: "26. Meteren by moonlight. At church service the priest gave his sermon in Flemish, for the inhabitants, and in French for the refugees. Men chewed and spat freely throughout service. We called the street, "Rue Bully Beef", because rations were issued there."
