"22. 'Plugstreet' Church and Kemmel Hill." Painting includes legend: "Plugstreet, Xmas 1916". On reverse: "22. Ploegsteert Church & Mt. Kimmel. From ruined billet, Christmas Day, 1916. The Mess celebrated by playing a battered Decca but had to use sharpened matschsticks in lieu of needles. (Try them; they act!)."
