Godfrey Bingley
Godfrey Bingley was born in Leeds in 1842. He owned a foundry on Harper Street in the middle of the city. During his retirement he became a keen photographer and took thousands of photos from 1887-1913. The subjects of his photographs reflect his interest in geology, history and travel. These include many pictures of Yorkshire including Kirkstall Abbey, Fountains Abbey and Scarborough, as well as places further afield such as Norway, France and Mexico. Bingley donated his photographic collection to the University of Leeds in 1913.
