The plate has the caption 'A VIEW OF PENSHURST PLACE IN THE COUNTY OF KENT. This Plate was engraved in the Year 1747, by Mr. George Vertue, for Willm Perry Esq. And is now presented to this Work by Mrs. Elizabeth Perry his Widow, The only remaining Heir of the Noble family of [S]idney, & the present Owner of this Seat.' The tears at the bottom of the original print have been digitally improved.
