Joseph Bufton was a weaver in Coggeshall, Essex. Comprises personal notes made by Bufton on blank pages and margins of a printed almanac 'Rider's British Merlin 1680'. These include miscellaneous collections of poems, extracts taken from books, epitomes of various seafaring recollections, accounts of lives and deathbed thoughts of various people of social importance (including John Wilmot, Earl of Rochester), accounts of contemporary events (including the persecution of French Protestants and the 1688 revolution), and summaries of sermons.
