antimacassar

  • Original object type: Artefact
  • Title: antimacassar
  • Description:

paper with handwritten notes in ink 'My fingers are no longer capable of mending/altering this chair-back (antimacassa). My mother said she bought the linen from Hitchen's---a store in Briggate early 1920s - as aeroplane linen remnants - perhaps from Blackburn's (later Auro). She sketched the crochet motif onto the back of an envelope from a window in a craft shop in Morecambe one Whitsuntide. I did the mounting for her. The other chair and sofa back may one day come your way - all made at the outbreak of W.W.II. They have worked very hard and given great pleasure.'
