Description:
Note on back of original card mount by Mrs Duxbury:
"Worked by Margharita Steele (now Rita Martin - doll maker) when she was 9 yrs. (circa 1940). She put the transfer on herself, and helped her mother regularly embroider for Church 'Sales of Work'. She was a nursery nurse, had her own 'class' at one time, looked after the 'new children' at Alwoodley Primary, ran the Brownies and then took to doll making etc after her husband David's accident (which broke his spine).
As a child, lacking experience (she did this tablecloth corner on her own for her mother's birthday. She put the triangle across the corner on the cross, making it more difficult to embroider (possibility of stretching). Also she used 'full strength' stranded cotton, which made it harder to sew and gave a heavy result."
